Side Events

The Our Ocean Conference will have a limited number of rooms available for side events at the conference venue. In order not to compete with the main conference programme, time slots for side events are set for 17:30 – 18:30 on 23 October, and 07:30 – 08:30 and 17:30-19:00 on 24 October.

The rooms are set up with roundtables and can accommodate 50 participants.

Side events should be closely related to the goals and objectives of Our Ocean 2019 and reflect an approach to the overarching theme and areas of action to be discussed during the conference. The side events should constitute a potential contribution to the outcome of Our Ocean.

In order to ensure broad representation, we encourage cooperation between different actors in organising side events.

Proposals for side events should be sent before 15 July to Allocation of slots will be made by 15 August. Proposals, in the form of 1-2 pages concept note, should have a short presentation and justification of theme, purpose, target group and expected number of participants.

The rooms are available free of charge and are equipped with projector and screen. Hosts of side events are responsible for all matters associated with organising the event and any additional costs such as coffe, tea and other supplements.

Criteria for selection

Selection of side events at the conference venue will be made according to the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the goals and objectives of Our Ocean 2019
  • Ensuring representation of a broad range of issues and actors
  • Collaboration between different actors is encouraged
